BEAUTY ON A BUDGET

Three makeup brands with products you’ll love, price and all

By Ingrid N. Mata

It goes without saying that makeup, and fashion, can get pricey— especially when beauty bloggers and “gurus” say we need a ton of products to achieve a desired look. There are primers for matte and dewy skin, concealers to highlight or correct, and many more items on the market. What to choose? And, what’s the point?

Makeup is about self-expression, and often self-love. The application process itself can be used to enhance one’s natural appearance, but it can be more. Working with different textures and trying out new looks is a creative outlet for many people. More importantly, though, is the effect a carefully curated beauty routine you enjoy can have. The additional time you spend on yourself, considering spare time is challenging to come by these days, can have a therapeutic effect. To help you find quality products at an affordable price, regardless if you are a beginner or pro, we narrowed our list down to three prominent brands currently thriving in the beauty industry because of their unquestionable quality products. Check them out below:

Colourpop
Not only was this makeup brand founded in Los Angeles, California, it also does NOT test on animals. Colourpop is known for their
Super Shock Shadows and Liquid Lipsticks that range from $5-$8 USD in every color imaginable. The brand has a number of thematic collaborations with other companies and people as well. Currently, a couple of these special collections include Disney
Villains
,
which consists of makeup products by none other than the Evil Queen and Cruella de Vil, and Make-A-Wish, which was worked on by a creative 17-year-old battling cancer.

Milani Cosmetics

By name, the makeup brand pays tribute to a fashion capital of the world, Milan, Italy. Milani Cosmetics has an array of products to dress your face, lips, and eyes. Did I mention the brand as a whole is also cruelty-free? In addition to this, they have a Vegan Beauty line that is PETA certified. What Milani is most known for, however, is their inclusive shade range for people of color. Their foundations are highly recommended, and more specifically, their Rose Powder Blushes are popular because they blend beautifully on top of their foundations.

Wet ‘n Wild

Originally from Brooklyn, New York, the beauty brand took the industry by storm when it relocated to Los Angeles, California. With lipsticks starting at $0.99 USD to a foundation under $7 USD that was tested under “7 different light conditions”, Wet ‘n Wild becomes a quick favorite for many people. They are available at most retail stores, giving people affordability and accessibility. The beauty brand, which is cruelty-free too, also carries more than 365 different nail polish shades—one for each day of the year.

Art With Impact

The students of ENG3120 are creating an online magazine that explores the concept of and provides outlets to maintaining healthy mentalities and overall wellness—a term which we define as: a state of wellbeing wherein individuals realize their own abiliities and can cope with everyday stresses in a safe and healthy manner.
