BENEFITS OF HAVING A PET

By Lauren Sianez

I’ve been a dog lover my entire life, from the energetic Siberian Husky to the tiny Yorkshire
Terrier. During the last decade of my life, however, I would recommend the Shih Tzu, or the
“Lion Dog”, to anyone searching for a pet who’s small in size but large in personality and full of
love to give.

Shih Tzus are social, and very affectionate pets, especially towards children. They are a perfect
companion if you live in an apartment or have a small backyard. A Shih Tzu’s idea of fun is to
lay on your lap and be adorable. They have a history of being the pets of Chinese nobility: Shih
Tzu’s treat their owners like royalty and expect to be pampered like royalty themselves. If you
care for their flowing coat, feed them high-quality food, and give them exercise to explore
outside their “kingdom”, your Shih Tzu will love you forever.

My family got Lucy in 2015 when she was just a puppy. We were told that she was a nosey baby
and would follow you everywhere. Four years later, that statement still holds truth. While Lucy
does well on her own, she prefers to be with the company of others. She loves making new
friends whenever she’s outside, increasing the number of members to “The Lucy Fan Club” as
my dad likes to say. She doesn’t judge and will happily stay by your side while you’re working.
Whenever I need a break, Lucy’s ready to walk, play, or eat with me. She reminds me to take
care of myself and that it’s okay to take breaks when needed. Lucy loves to be loved and give
love in return.
