Music Therapy
By Flora Aslanian
My ultimate escape has always been music. No matter what I am going through, no amount of visual stimulation can unwind a long and stressful day—or month—as well as music can. I grew up with a rich musical background, as my father introduced me to the classic rock, the blues and jazz of the ‘70s; while my mother introduced me to the sounds of disco queens and classical music. Some consistent tunes that can be heard in my car today range from the legendary French Armenian singer Charles Aznavour, the grunge gods, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains, and the musical genius of Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. A list of my favorite songs often on heavy rotation include: “Wish You Were Here” and “The Great Gig in the Sky” by Pink Floyd; “Kashmir” and “When the Levee Breaks” by Led Zeppelin; “Garden, “State of Love and Trust”, and “Alive” by Pearl Jam; and “La Bohème” and “Emmenez Moi” by Charles Aznavour.
