LUCY POOPSIE: MY LITTLE FUR BABY

By Karen Favela

All my life, I’ve wanted a dog. Living in a small, rented apartment with one of our two
bedrooms housing me and my three siblings, the idea of that becoming a reality was pretty far-
fetched. Fast-forward to today, being able to live with my boyfriend and his family as adults, that
dream has become a reality. We found our little fur baby Lucy nestled in her cage with two
howling huskies beside her, and it was love at first site. Since then, my Lucy has benefited from
being loved unconditionally by me and my boyfriend, just as we have benefited from her
unconditional love. She is always there for me when I’m having a bad day, and brings more light
to an already amazing day. One of the things that still sticks to me this day is the fact that she
was actually already adopted by someone while she was in the pound, but then returned her
two days later because she was “too playful”. She was only two months old when we got her. I
can only imagine how that felt for her to think she was free only to be stuffed back into a cage
again, but thankfully they did return her so I had the opportunity to find my baby. Overall, I think
my life has changed drastically because I literally have a life I’m looking after and love, and for
my Lucy, she is able to live a happy life where she isn’t confined or treated poorly.
